Out of a pool of 37 global finalists announced earlier this month, Perth Team, Landslide Detection Squad was named the Global Winner of the world’s largest hackathon - the 2021 NASA International Space Apps Challenge!

50 students from across UWA, Curtin University, North Metropolitan TAFE and The University of Notre Dame Australia – from different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds undertook a range of immersion activities, workshops and knowledge sharing sessions as well as a 3-day retreat in the South-West region and the Perth CBD.

In the last week of November, CORE Innovation Hub Perth hosted their annual End of Year Celebration. The celebration was a smash hit, giving our community and broader industry the opportunity to connect and network before the start of the so-called silly season. It was great to see so many familiar faces, and equally as nice to see some new faces in our space as well.

Last month Regional Engagement Lead, Natalie Carter attended the Newman Chamber of Commerce and Industry After Hours Networking. The event hosted by C-Res and Austmine, provided a great opportunity for 50+ local businesses to connect and network.

The International Space Apps Challenge is the largest global hackathon in the world, with over 28,000 registrants from 162 countries participating in the 2021 event. Of the 37 Global finalists announced last week, Perth Team, Landslide Detection Squad was named for their work on identifying risk with science and communities.
