Opportunity Knocks: Taking the Next Steps for SMEs
NERA (National Energy Resources Australia) was set up in 2016 to improve global competitiveness and grow collaboration and innovation across the Australian energy resources industry, comprising of the oil and gas, coal and uranium sectors.
NERA, as a trusted, independent player in the sector, has a vital role in connecting innovative small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) together with major operators, to work together to identify opportunities for improving the competitiveness of the sector and for driving the commercialisation of innovation that will benefit the entire Australian energy resources industry.
Today’s disruptive and challenging environment provides the perfect opportunity for industry to establish new models of engagement with suppliers and entrepreneurs. There are myriad opportunities for SMEs to create value for their Australian customers and also to collaborate with each other to maximise that value and build strong and sustainable export capabilities.
The size of the prize is significant for everybody. Through creating new connections and new ways of working together, by identifying and addressing the internal barriers to change and by creating critical mass in areas where transformational change is achievable, Australia’s energy resources sector can position itself to be globally competitive, able to adapt more rapidly and sustainable.
NERA recognises the value of innovators and SMEs to the energy resources sector and as such, invites you to take part in its SME Opportunity Knocks program, with an initial focus on the oil and gas sector.
Phase 1 (Free): February 23, 2017
As a sponsor of the Collaboration Forum at the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference (AOG), NERA is hosting a free one-day seminar for SMEs to identify opportunities for them in the operations and maintenance phase of major oil and gas assets with a focus on LNG. The session will also explore ways for SMEs to determine whether their business is "LNG ready". Register for the session here.
Phase 2 (Ticketed): April-May 2017
Once you have registered for this phase, you will have early access to a core group of mentors and business advisors to assist you in working on your business plan through the Commonwealth Government’s Entrepreneurs Programme. You will then be invited to attend a strategic session to present and work through your business plan with a group of oil and gas industry technical and commercial experts. The session will provide a thorough critique of your plan by a team led by 30-year veteran of the oil and gas sector, Howard Thomas of Thomas & McKinlay.
Phase 3 (Ticketed): May 31, 2017
In conjunction with the Petroleum Club of WA, NERA will host a networking event where all registered SMEs will have a “speed dating” opportunity to pitch their business or innovation to a range of Tier 1 contractors and service providers supported by major LNG operators.
