Dr Glenn Callow
Glenn is a systems engineer and expert in intelligent and autonomous systems.
Glenn leads Rio Tinto's Automation and Analytics Development group, which is developing a suite of tools and technologies that support a ‘whole of mine’ automation system, known as MAS (the Mine Automation System). MAS is complemented by a 3D visualisation tool, RTVis, the development of which is also led by my group. Versions of MAS and RTVis are now deployed at the majority of Rio Tinto's surface mines.
He leads, manages and collaborates with three groups. His internal team is comprised of technical specialists and engineers that have key skills associated with mine automation, and a QA/QC team that ensure the developed systems are of appropriate quality. These are supplemented by an off-shore software development team, based in Pune (India). The third group comprises researchers based at the Rio Tinto Centre for Mine Automation (RTCMA), located at the University of Sydney. Glenn chairs the Technical Steering Group for RTCMA, which sets the technical direction for the research programme and monitors progress.
