This fantastic event brings together high school students across Perth to meet inspirational W.A. women and find out about their journey; the successes and the challenges and to collaborate and problem solve in an innovation task. Developed to increase self-belief and raise aspirations of young women in years 10 and 11 to give an insight into the success that each and every young woman is able to achieve.
The event will be opened by Professor Cobie Rudd, who will provide the welcome address. Professor Rudd is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) and Vice-President at Edith Cowan University and has key responsibility for leading gender equity in academia for Edith Cowan University; the only Australian university to be named after a woman. As part of the first pilot of the Athena SWAN Charter in Australia, she is actively addressing the gender imbalance in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM). This includes building a culture of equality and diversity with measurable gains including increased opportunities for women and improved work practices.
Our inspiring presenters include Vicki Rasmussen, Executive Director of Charlie's Foundation for Research with over 20 years experience in the not for profit sector in some of the largest and most respected charities; Jess Williamson, Founder of Ete Swimwear who at just 23 created and marketed her own beachwear brand and was invited to bring her range to the catwalks of New York Fashion Week; and Eva Sayem, Co-Founder of Approach Services, who is passionate about working with project teams to achieve a better understanding of diversity in personality and behaviour and bridging the gap between technical and interpersonal skills.
