In October 2019, CORE Innovation Hub was thrilled to partner with Space Hub Perth to bring the NASA Space Apps Challenge to the city, for the 4th year in a row.
This week, NASA announced the Global Finalists, selecting just 36 teams from the 2066 out of 225 cities world-wide. For the 3rd time in 4 years, a team from Perth has made the list! Team SOS, made up of members from SciTech and Curtin University, have successfully made it to the Finals with their impressive Virtual Reality game ‘SOS: Save Our Sphere.’
Team SOS took on the ‘1 Up for NASA Earth’ challenge;
‘Your challenge is to create a new video game that uses NASA Earth data, providing players a novel way to interact and have fun with NASA Earth data. What you create can inform, educate, inspire, or simply provide an enjoyable experience for players – the Earth is your stage! ‘
SOS: Save our Sphere is a creative, innovative, and impressive concept which utilizes Virtual Reality headsets and NASA environmental data to create a game which educates players on climate change, the environment, and solutions to rehabilitate forests and ecosystems around the world.
