“TAU is the Setswana (African language) word for Lion. It is the language predominantly spoken in the region where I grew up. Lion is a symbol of courage, strength and leadership. The 5 in the name has many connotations. My name Quintin means “ the 5th”. It is also the number related to grace.”
ABOUT TAU5
Tau5 Mining Solutions is one of our current CORE Start businesses in residence. Originally based in South Africa, Quintin Coetzee moved with his family to Perth in early 2019 in an effort to bring Tau5 and their mining digitization systems to the Australian market.
Established in 2015, Tau5 South Africa began developing an underground fleet management system for coal mines, using existing PDS hardware, with the software developed in such a way that the same technology and software can be adapted for the underground hard rock or opencast environment. Now, Quintin has founded Tau5 Australia, and is working towards establishing industry relationships and trialing the their fleet management systems on Australian mine sites.
WHAT WE DO: DIGITALIZATION OF UNDERGROUND MINES - FLEET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The fleet management system provides a complete productivity optimization package: hardware-, software- and specialized service support that focuses on asset monitoring, asset management and mining process to realize actual productivity improvements and improved reliability.
Based on the application, commodity and setup- mining production output improvements of 5-10% can conservatively be achieved, by addressing inefficiencies in load, haul, offload cycles. The combination of applications also addresses asset reliability, as well as improving and monitoring compliance of site business rules.
