You could say that the CORE Start award is at the core of what we do. Pun intended. As an innovation hub and startup incubator, one of the founding visions of CORE is to help facilitate the success of new startups in the energy, resources, defence, and space industries. With the CORE start award, we are able to do just that!
The start award offers promising startups a leg up in an industry that can be tough to crack. We want to help small businesses by using our industry experience, connections, and partnerships to bridge the gap between the innovative world of startups and established industry.
CORE offers start winners full time co-working space with full member benefits for three months, mentorship from award sponsors and corporate partners (past partners include NERA and WesTrac), masterclasses, business advice, and introductions to business networks through are various events. We also help winners better understand the technology landscape, community, and culture of the energy sectors in Western Australia (and beyond).

CORE start recipients are also given opportunities to hone their presentation skills, with invitations to public panel discussions, presentations, and other activities which relate to innovation, technology, energy and resources.
CORE has an extensive professional network made up of industry professionals (including WesTrac, NERA, Austmine, and Mets Ignited), CORE members, CORE alumni, Spacecubed, and many more.
Collaboration is key.
Alumni of the CORE Start program have gone on to work on ground-breaking projects: Our first award recipient, Flicq, is using their innovative sensor technology to bring the Internet of Things to Industry. Flicq’s sensors are being used to monitor everything from fleets of vessels to wind turbines. Learn more about what they do here.
Our second award recipient, Chironix, is a cutting edge technology company which builds intelligent, human-centred systems integrating robotics, wearable and other IoT technology with machine learning and cloud computing. Chironix works with technology leaders all over the world; currently they are developing a proof of concept for the US Office of Naval Research, and are one of only 14 Google Glass Developer Partners globally.
