Thank you to everyone who helped to launch CORE Innovation Hub on Wednesday 5 October, in the Perth CBD. It was a fantastic evening with 200 guests in attendance from across the resources and energy sector and innovation community, including many industry leaders who are helping to shape the future of the resources and energy sector through collaboration, technology and innovation.
Announcing CORE as formally launched, Simon Vincent, CORE Entrepreneur-in-Residence and Co-Founder of Newton Labs, made a toast to commemorate the start of the journey for CORE and the sector community. Newton Labs has pioneered a journey from prototype to market, winning Australia’s first resources hackathon with Unearthed in 2014, developing a novel hardware solution using vibration analysis to detect oversized rocks, to WA Innovator of the Year 2015 (Emerging Category).
CEO Tamryn Barker shared how CORE is invigorating a global vision for Australia in resources technology and innovation, focused on the value being delivered by disruptive technologies.
The Hon. Bill Marmion, WA Minister for State Development, Transport and Innovation acknowledged the CORE industry partnership and noted that greater collaboration and open innovation goes hand in hand with realising the vision for Perth as a global resources technology hub.
CORE opened at the end of July and, in addition to the Foundation Partners NERA, METS Ignited, Austmine, WesTrac, Unearthed and Spacecubed who have innovation teams in the space, has an increasing number of industry partners from across mining and oil and gas, including industry bodies Engineers Australia and Subsea Energy Australia.
WesTrac, who have part of their technology team based in CORE, is one of the largest authorised Caterpillar dealers in the world. Being in CORE allows the team to be surrounded by innovation, startup mentality and people, and to be part of the wider innovation and technology community.
The launch has been quickly followed up by the signing of CORE’s first international agreement with Caterpillar Ventures in San Francisco.
